Look for students who are interested in volunteering for conservation outreach education in Putnam County, Indiana. Topics include: water quality, invasive species, land management, soil health and pollinators. Most of the work will be done in schools, but it may also be done in public libraries, farmers’ markets, and various other places in Putnam County. Volunteers should be willing to work with K-12 and pass background checks while working at school. Training and materials will be provided. A time commitment of once a month would be ideal.  

Head of Citizen Climate Campus 

Citizen Climate Education is looking for students who want to become changemakers to join the #PutaPriceonIt event and to stimulate young people's attention to climate change. Applicants must be willing to study at least 5 hours per week and one semester, and have previous leadership experience or previous CCL experience. Apply here.

Indiana has the most climate resolutions at the municipal level of any state in the country. This may be hard to believe at first, but it proves that hard work in the face of unique local challenges pays off. The Earth Charter of Indiana (ECI), a non-profit organization based in Indianapolis, has helped 10 cities develop their own climate restoration resolutions. We are looking for students from different backgrounds, whether your interest is policy, environmental action or community work, to pass Greencastle’s resolution. Involving different constituencies is essential to paving the way for local solutions. Through this project with the university and ECI, students can reach the Greencastle community and participate in the work of creating change. During this project, students will work with K-12 students in the town to communicate with the Greencastle Sustainability Committee, the mayor, city councillors and other local stakeholders. RE-volv's Solar Energy Ambassador Program

During the course of a school year, solar ambassadors work as a team to identify non-profit organizations or cooperatives near their campuses that want to use solar energy. The team worked with RE-volv to establish projects and carry out crowdfunding activities to underwrite solar energy systems. 

Students who are interested in starting the zero-waste movement at the grassroots level can participate in creative social media internships and local food internships in Philadelphia. White Violet Ecological Justice Center

Three-month minimum commitment. Interns will receive a private dormitory-style room, produce, a family budget for one meal a day and other meals, a monthly allowance of $100.00 and the opportunity to participate in seminars. Opportunities to learn fiber art and environmental advocacy, community participation and spiritual groups.

The "Price for it" campaign worked with civic climate lobby groups to mobilize students to formulate carbon pricing policies. Join the action group, become a field representative or apply for a scholarship. Compensation for scholarships is provided on the basis of competition. 

The network of urban farms located in downtown Indy has created good job opportunities for worker owners, revitalized the urban landscape, and produced ultra-local, sustainably grown food. Annie Dixon '18 is an intern at Mad Farmers Collective and is happy to contact interested students.

Climatologists are looking for interns to support the expansion of the Climate Network, an open-access and crowdsourcing approach to climate change. Interns can work anywhere and need to work 5-20 hours a week to complete 3-6 months of work.

A part-time internship for one semester. The ambassadors will work 5-10 hours per week ($12/hour) to establish a campus network with faculty, staff and students to raise awareness of agricultural biosciences and Field Atlas careers.

Science undergraduate laboratory internship 

Encourage undergraduates and recent graduates to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) by providing research experience in the Department of Energy (DOE) laboratories. Geologist in the Park (GIP) Program 

The program matches college students and recent graduates aged 18 to 35 with short-term paid internships from the National Park Service. It is planned to create about 100 positions.

Our mission is to promote sustainable living at the local and global levels through local-based education, applied research, and collaborative community programs. EF Donna Riner '20 interned at the institute in the summer of 2019, and EFP co-directors Heithaus and Professor Vaglia were in contact with the research. 

A 10-week residential course is open to students of all majors and welcomes students from other universities, who can transfer the credits earned to their home country.

Mitch Leland Energy Scholarship (MLEF) Program

Provide educational opportunities for students to gain real-world hands-on research experience in the Department of Energy (DOE) Fossil Energy Office. Eligible applicants must be at least sophomores, U.S. citizens, and have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.8.

Indiana Wildlife Federation (IWF) 

Provide summer internships. The internship is unpaid, but the IWF does provide a summer stipend of $1,000 and cover travel expenses when necessary. Summer positions will be released in spring.

Students will spend a summer vacation at the Institute of Energy and Environment and work in a research or energy clinic team composed of graduate students specializing in energy law. Drink a local beverage tap 

A non-profit organization that motivates individuals to understand and solve our water problems through creative education, activities, and providing safe water for those in need. EF Claire Mohney '20 interned at Drink Local Drink Tap in the summer of 2018.

Cultivate a nourishing environment that supports health, economic development, healing, and creativity through urban agriculture. EF Maddi Stern '19 did an internship at UGC in the summer of 2018.

EF Emmanuel Kwakye '19 interned at Heritage Research Group in the summer of 2018. He went to an asphalt plant in the western United States, collected samples, analyzed the particulate matter that workers had come into contact with in the laboratory, and recommended safer practices. Emmanuel discovered this paid opportunity by joining the American Chemical Society.

With the support of CCE staff and higher education allies, interns and researchers conduct carbon pricing education, and organize peers and leaders in the higher education field to support Congress’s climate solutions. Those who apply before May 15 will start part-time in June this year and start their activities in the fall.

Central Indiana Transportation Administration (CIRTA)

The leader of regional transportation solutions-connecting people is creating healthy communities through public transportation. EF alumni Annie Dixon '18 took an internship at CIRTA in the summer of 2017 and served as the travel needs coordinator at CIRTA.

Doris Duke Conservation Scholars Program-University of California, Santa Cruz

Every March, the University of California, Santa Cruz selects 20 early undergraduates from across the country to participate in a two-year conservation guidance program that centers on the summer between school years. The plan chooses to focus on serving freshmen, sophomores and juniors. At this stage, we can support their undergraduate careers and choices upon graduation. Environmental researcher Joevita Weah '20 accepted the Doris Duke Conservation Scholarship from the University of California, Santa Cruz in the summer of 2018 and 2019.

Doris Duke Conservation Scholars Program-University of Michigan 

Applicants must be current freshmen, sophomores or juniors. This is an excellent opportunity to collaborate with Dr. Dorceta Taylor, an outstanding scholar in environmental justice.

The Doris Duke Conservation Scholarship is also open every year at the University of Washington, Northern Arizona University and the University of Florida.

A unique overseas research program designed for undergraduates seeking international research experience. Students conduct research at one of the 7 internationally renowned European research universities. Students have the opportunity to learn a course in the classroom, and then under the direct supervision of professors and other academic staff to carry out specific academic research projects jointly selected by students and teachers.

Institute of Field Education (IFE)

A European non-profit educational institution offering semester courses in France, Belgium and now Spain. IFE's field research and internship program is built around field research conducted on-site by full-time internships. Courses are in Paris, Strasbourg, Brussels, Andalusia and Asturias. Students need at least 4 semesters of French or Spanish. EF Kiara Goodwine '19 spent a semester with IFE in Brussels, Greta Raser '21 studied with IFE (Spring 2020).

DIS Study in Scandinavia 

The courses in Copenhagen and Stockholm offer a variety of core courses, including environmental science/research, sustainability, public policy, urban studies, international affairs, public health, etc. Curriculum and field research focus on comparative research, taught by practitioners and teachers, and provide research opportunities. AmeriCorps provides intensive services to more than 75,000 Americans in non-profit organizations, schools, public institutions, and community groups across the country each year.

Change Corps is a one-year paid full immersion grassroots organization training program.

The AmeriCorps initiative, a governor's initiative dedicated to building local governments' capacity to deal with climate change, is now recruiting members. Member applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

FoodCorps is a national AmeriCorps leadership team that connects children with real food to help them grow up healthily.

Green Corps provides annual paid training programs for college graduates, combining intensive classroom training with environmental movement leaders and field placement, and working with organizations such as the Sierra Club and Food and Water Watch to solve pressing environmental issues.

The Echoing Green Climate Fellowship established in cooperation with the ZOOM Foundation is for leaders who are committed to mitigating and adapting to climate change. Echoing Green is interested in applications from social entrepreneurs interested in holistic mitigation and adaptive responses. This can be anything from technology solutions based in the United States to solutions based on community organizations in developing countries. In addition to health insurance and professional development allowances, researchers can also receive allowances (US$80,000 for individuals; US$90,000 for two-person partners) in four installments within two years.

Geologist in the Park (GIP) Program

The program matches college students and recent graduates aged 18 to 35 with short-term paid internships from the National Park Service. 

Governor's Scholarship Program (Indiana)

A highly selective payment plan for recent graduates. Researchers take turns serving in various national institutions within a year, completing special projects, and personally experiencing policy formulation methods.

The mission of Environment America is to transform our ideas and imagination into change and make our world greener and healthier. Environment America's two-year full-time scholarship program provides participants with the necessary skills to shift public opinion and political momentum to a greener and healthier world. While working in Environmental America, the researcher will build strong alliances, lobby elected officials, research and write reports, identify and train donors, and run a grassroots campaign office every summer. Fulbright/National Geographic Digital Storytelling Scholarship

The Fulbright/National Geographic Digital Storytelling Scholarship is a new component of the Fulbright American Student Program. It provides American citizens with the opportunity to participate in one academic year of overseas travel and digital lectures in up to three countries. Stories to discuss social or environmental topics of global importance. In addition to receiving Fulbright benefits (travel, allowance, health, etc.), the researcher will also receive instruction in digital storytelling techniques and will be paired with one or more National Geographic editors. Public Laboratory Researcher Program 

Public laboratories support scholarships that emphasize peer production projects dedicated to community environmental health issues, providing short-term, medium-term and long-term tasks. Researchers advance the impact of community science on key environmental health topics, such as particulate air pollution, lead pollution in soil and water, and pipeline monitoring. Researchers must devote a certain amount of time each week and will receive different amounts of allowances, depending on the scholarship. Regular public appeals for individual scholarships are issued. The scholarship is not restricted by location, but applicants from Providence, Rhode Island are strongly preferred.

Merlyn Climate Grants provide grants to individuals between the ages of 13 and 30 who have a clear vision to influence climate and environmental justice, and support science and freedom of the press. Leading climate action is the focus of Merlyn Climate Grants. Applicants may ask for US$500 to US$3,000 and live in New England or New York. No affiliation with 501c3 is required to qualify the applicant. Grant funding for activities that have a positive impact on the researcher community-such as carbon footprint reduction, community action, artistic and dramatic works, organization, training, and outreach.

Student PIRGs Organization Scholarship 

For more than 40 years, Student PIRGs has been committed to expanding the power of student activism and helping students make real changes immediately. In this one-year full-time program, campus organizers will recruit volunteers, train potential leaders to take on more responsibilities, and conduct their own campaign work to provide students with the training and resources needed to become sports leaders. The target salary for the first year of this position is $27,500. Every group that cooperates with student PIRG provides a competitive package of benefits. Roddenberry Fellowship is a 12-month program for activists from all over the country who are committed to protecting the most vulnerable and making the United States a more inclusive and fair place to live. Twenty researchers will be selected, each receiving US$50,000 and tailor-made support to help implement projects or initiatives in one of four areas: civil rights, climate change and environmental justice, immigration and refugee rights, and LGBTQIA and Women's rights. Jane and David Stone Civic Leadership Award 

The $500 bonus will be awarded to two senior students who are about to graduate in recognition of their outstanding contributions to community service and civic engagement during the four years of DePauw.

Bard College LIASE Scholarship 

The LIASE Scholarship (Luce Initiative for Asian Studies and the Environment) provides graduate students with up to 100% tuition reduction in the first year and at least 50% tuition reduction in the second year. Applicants for the LIASE scholarship must be citizens of one of China, Japan, or South Korea, and must show interest in the environmental policy of their region. 

Bronze Club Scholarships and Awards 

Scholarships for students majoring in geology or other copper production-related majors. If you are eligible for this scholarship and wish to be considered, please send a note to one of the geography professors and briefly explain your eligibility.  

DePauw Pamela (Lorman) and Ben Peternell Environmental Scholarship

Suitable for current DePauw sophomores who are interested in courses and/or careers in terms of environment and sustainability. The scholarship will open again in February 2022.

The Udall Foundation provides scholarships to second- and third-year university students in recognition of their leadership, public service, and commitment to issues related to American Indian countries or the environment. Contact envfellows@depauw.edu for more information.

Indiana Wildlife Federation (IWF) Endowment Fund

IWF Endowment awards a scholarship of US$1,000 to students studying in fields related to natural resource conservation or environmental education. The applicant must be a resident of Indiana.

International Education Institute (Off-campus Study Award): 

National Hydropower Association (NHA) Past President Heritage Scholarship

Students currently enrolled in the second or third year of college are eligible for a $2,500 scholarship, which will be awarded to people with academic skills and a commitment to help create the next generation of leaders in the hydropower industry.

Indiana Association of Environmental Professionals 

INAEP provides scholarships for students pursuing degrees in environmental sciences or related degrees (such as biology). Provided to sophomore or above undergraduates or students studying for a master's degree. National Science Foundation Robert Noyce Scholarship Program

This course is aimed at students with undergraduate degrees in science fields such as biology, chemistry, environmental science, geology, physics, and engineering. Provide recipients with a subsidy of US$7500.00 per semester, students can complete their courses in just three semesters (one calendar year) and be recommended to obtain a middle school/secondary school license

Shell Petroleum Corporation provides annual scholarships for students pursuing undergraduate degrees in specific technical research fields at certain universities.

American Garden Club

Provide 28 academic scholarships and fellowships in 12 fields related to conservation, ecology, horticulture, and pollinator research.

Sigma Xi funded research grants 

Can be used by undergraduates and graduate students.

National Wildlife Federation Ecological Leadership Scholarship

National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program (NSF GRFP)

NSF GRFP recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students who are pursuing research masters and doctoral degrees in accredited American institutions in STEM disciplines supported by NSF. The five-year scholarship includes three years of financial support, including an annual allowance of US$34,000 and an education allowance of US$12,000 to the institution.
