After waiting for a long time, justice was finally served. According to a media statement from the Berkshire District Attorney's Office, the perpetrator of the sexual assault in 2003 finally received a state prison sentence.

The Berkshire District Attorney's Office convicted 54-year-old Juan Harry on three counts of molestation and assault and one count of child rape.

More than ten years ago, Harry fled the prosecution. The North Adams Police Department arrested Harry in 2003 for sexually assaulting two 11-year-old girls. Harry fled the area on the first day of the court’s expected trial in 2010.

Then, just a few months ago, in August, the Nassau County police in New York State arrested Harry under a default arrest warrant. Judge John Agostini sentenced Harry to serving 8 to 10 years in state prison, in line with state sentencing recommendations.

Here is what Berkshire District Attorney Andrea Harrington said:

We are very happy to finally let the victim, the adult woman who has been waiting for a long time, end with this long sentence. The District Attorney's Office will always fight for the victims, no matter how long it takes. I thank the North Adams Police and the multidisciplinary team for investigating this case and providing us with sufficient evidence to secure a conviction. I thank the brave victims for reviewing these terrible events and sharing their strong victim witness statements with the court.
