New Delhi: The 2020 Tokyo Olympics are scheduled to open on July 23. Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, the Olympics were postponed. This rest period allows many athletes time to exercise their weaknesses. India's current badminton ace PV Sindhu also made a lot of effort during the Covid-19 pandemic. According to her coach Park Tae-sang, PV Sindhu's defense is weak, but she put in a lot of effort during the isolation period to get better.

Park Tae Sang was appointed as coach in 2019. He previously worked with the South Korean team in 2013-2018. "Compared with her attack, Sindu's defense is very weak. So I have been focusing on her defensive training before the Olympics," Parker told PTI.

"When the Olympics were postponed, I thought it was an opportunity to exercise her movement skills and network training. Top players such as Akane Yamaguchi and Dai Ziying knew that Xindu had a strong offensive power, and they waited for her to smash. .

"So we tried to defend her, this has always been her weakness. So the idea is to help her get some changes from the back of the court, such as playing more drops, throws or half kills," he added.

In terms of personal performance, Sindu had an unforgettable year. The only silver lining is that she lost to her rival Carolina Marin in the Swiss Open final.

For Sindhu, it is not easy to return from the break of Covid-19 because she lost in the first round of the Super 1000 event and failed to make it to the knockout stage in the World Tour Finals.

"I know a lot of people felt that her physical strength was not right when she lost in the Thailand Open, but that was not the case. She reached the Swiss final, the All England semi-finals and physical fitness were not a problem," Parker said.

He emphasized the fact that Sindu had a problem defensively and disclosed how she overcome it. "Her defense is the only problem. (Carolina) Marin and Pornpawee (Chochuwong) are both good offensive players. They use a lot of half dunks and straight dunks. When Sindu's defense drops for a day, it will also affect her. Of other skills, she will feel nervous.

"But now her defense has also improved a lot. Her endurance on the court is also very good," he said.

Since February this year, Park Geun-hye has not been reunited with his family in South Korea. He said his family missed him, but his goal is for Sindhu to win the gold medal at the 2020 Olympics.
