The large detached house backed by Rathfarnham Castle Golf Club has almost everything a family wants: seven bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, elevator connecting four floors, from the pool in the basement to the independent two-bedroom apartment on the top floor, a beautifully landscaped In the back garden, at the end is a children’s playground-from the bottom of the garden you can enter the golf club.

Glenart was completely rebuilt by the supplier in 2003, but retains the Art Deco style of houses built in the southern suburbs of Dublin in the 1930s. The double-height entrance hall is lined with panelled light oak walls and doors, the floor below is beautiful polished parquet, and the windows and glass doors of the entire house are inlaid with elongated lead frames.

It is rare to find a house with a proper elevator, and it is clear that the savings in rebuilding the house are minimal. Glenart is now more than twice the original property. The house called Hernshaw was auctioned for 1.46 million euros in 2001.

Glenart is a 740-square-meter (7,965-square-foot) detached house located on Rathfarnham 7 Hillside Drive, Dublin 14. It has a C1 Ber rating. Modern features include a central vacuum system, audio system, 3Kw car charging power point and floor heating.

The house-which was recently the residence of the Kenyan ambassador to Ireland-is beautifully decorated, and despite its size, it feels like a comfortable family home. The double front doors lead to a dramatic double-height entrance hall with a corridor; a chandelier hangs from a leaded glass dome on a circular staircase covered with a dark red V'soske Joyce carpet. The pale marble floor extends to the parquet floor at the end of the hall, and floor-to-ceiling windows and doors lead to the back garden.

A door to the left of the front door leads to an oak staircase leading to the basement. On the right side of the hall, passing the cloakroom, the fully tiled bathroom and the door to the double garage, is the elevator. A wide arch and sliding pocket door leads to the parquet-floored living room and dining room: it has a marble-surrounded fireplace and a wall of floor-to-ceiling windows, with double-glazed doors leading to the rear garden.

The corridor opposite the reception room leads to a family room with a glass fireplace, a large study room, a utility room and an open kitchen/breakfast room. The kitchen area is covered with beige travertine tiles, large cream Aga, polished granite island and countertops.

The area at the end of the kitchen is equipped with cabinets and desks, and more glass doors lead to the garden. A circular staircase with glass-paneled railings leads from here to the "leisure suite" described in the DNG brochure. No dry clothes are needed here-the sparkling blue swimming pool 1.2 meters deep is heated. The glass wall next to it can see an area that can be a gym or a snooker room. Here is a well-sized steam room, shower room, toilet and changing area. Steps lead from the basement to the rear garden, next to a cascading water feature.

Upstairs, there are five bedrooms on the first floor, located on either side of the corridor platform. They are all doubles, they are all suites, and they all have wardrobes. The spacious master bedroom has a walk-in closet and a marble-tiled en suite bathroom with shower and jacuzzi. The bathroom has a TV.

More stairs-or elevators-lead to the independent two-bed apartment at the top of the house. The glass door of the small living room leads to a large glass paneled balcony with views of the golf course (overlooking the 14th hole) and glimpses of the Dublin Mountains. The kitchenette is equipped with a refrigerator and microwave, but no oven. One double bedroom overlooks the back garden; the second bedroom is a single bedroom, each with an en suite bathroom.

The back garden is both formal and family-friendly. Sandstone terraces extend the width of the house, and sandstone paths divide the lawn. The garden is dominated by two large mature cedar trees; a bright red tree near the house is Acer Osakazuki (Japanese maple).

At the end of the garden is artificial grass and playground equipment, including an underground trampoline and a suitable slide. An ancient air-raid shelter is hidden in a corner. Most importantly, there is a gate on the high fence that separates the garden from the golf course and provides pedestrian access.

There is plenty of parking space in the cobblestone front garden.
