Greg Newsome II (Greg Newsome II) walked onto the podium at the 50-yard line at Shaw Stadium, observing the new turf below, the new stand in front of him, and the ecstatic team of Shaw High School football players behind him.

The Browns spoke on behalf of the Browns at the cornerback’s 2021 first-round draft pick for the Shaw High School’s venue dedication ceremony, which was held on Tuesday after the completion of the state-of-the-art artificial turf field at Shaw Stadium. The Haslam family and Browns feedback. The orange Browns helmet logo is painted on the 20-yard line, and the red Cardinals logo is painted on the midfield.

Five months ago, a group of dilapidated stands overlooked a patch of grass. This was not ideal for Shaw Stadium, where the NFL’s Cleveland Rams practiced and played home games in 1938, but the venue finally rejuvenated the school and the surrounding East Cleveland community.

Newsom said while listening to the football team, cheerleaders, band members and other students and Xiao staff: "It would be great to have a venue like this and have the opportunity to play more than one sport on this venue." Have fun and enjoy it. High school flies so fast. You can't stay in this field for too long. Enjoy every moment you have with each other."

The dedication of Shaw Stadium marks the completion of the 10th high-quality synthetic turf field installed in Ohio in the past five years as part of the field installation project initiated by the Haslam family and Browns Give Back in 2016.

With the exception of football, all new venues built through the program can be used for multiple sports and serve as a resource to further attract students from their respective regions. Given that the surface is stable and requires less maintenance than natural grasses, these fields are now easier to serve youth and community groups and their respective regions.

East Cleveland City School is the Cleveland Brown Foundation "Stay in the Game" partner school district! Keep learning, every day! Network, a statewide initiative aimed at increasing the importance of school attendance and ending long-term absenteeism. Through this program, the Browns also distributed $350,000 to East Cleveland last season to address educational needs related to the digital divide as part of the NFL's incentive change grant program.

Last spring, the Browns, East Cleveland City Schools, and the NFL, represented by Commissioner Roger Goodell, welcomed government officials, student athletes, faculty, and others at the groundbreaking ceremony held in Cleveland for the 2021 NFL Draft Special Guest.

The last ceremony was held on Tuesday. The Browns staff, Newsom and guard Johnny Stanton all attended the ceremony with school staff. East Cleveland School District Director Dr. Henry Pettiegrew and Ohio Senator Kenny Yuko also attended the meeting and talked about their excitement about the restoration work.

"We don't just want to play here," Pettigrew said. "We will use this field to enter our future. We will make you proud in this field, and we will have fun in this field."

After the ceremony, Newsom and Stanton talked with the team and chatted with other school staff to encourage them to use the field as much as possible. They all implored students to use this field as a motivation to become good students in school, and recalled that their high scores as high school scholars were one of the main reasons they could enter the NFL.

"You never know when your last game is yours, and you never know when your last day is," Newsom said. "I challenge all of you to be the best you can be. Aim to be ambitious, achieve your goals, and never let others tell you that you can't do something."
